Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 October 2026

ChainSignal (“we”, “us”, “our”) publishes independent research on crypto exchanges, wallets and on-chain tools. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you visit chaindepin.com (the “Site”), why we collect it, the legal basis we rely on, how long we keep it and the rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the ePrivacy Directive.

We have written it in plain language on purpose. If anything is unclear, contact us using the details in section 14.

1. Who is responsible for your data

The data controller responsible for the personal data described in this policy is:

  • Controller: ChainSignal (operated by DePIN Media)
  • Registered address: [Your registered business address]
  • Privacy contact: [email protected]

We have not appointed a statutory Data Protection Officer because our processing is limited in scope and does not require one under Article 37 GDPR. Privacy questions are handled directly by the editorial team at the address above.

2. What this policy covers

This policy applies to the Site and to any newsletter, contact form or account feature we operate. It does not apply to third-party crypto exchanges, wallets, analytics or affiliate partners that we link to. When you click through to one of those services, their own privacy policy governs the data they collect — we encourage you to read it before signing up.

3. What we collect, why, and our legal basis

We collect only what we need to run an advertising-free, reader-funded research site.

What we collect Why we collect it Legal basis (GDPR Art. 6)
Anonymous usage data (pages visited, referrer, device type, approximate country) To understand which reviews and comparisons are useful and to fix errors Consent (you opt in via the cookie banner)
Referral / attribution data (the exchange you clicked and a random click ID) To attribute outbound clicks to the correct exchange partner and keep our rankings reader-funded Consent
Information you send us (name, email, message via the contact form or newsletter signup) To reply to your request or send the newsletter you asked for Consent / performance of your request
Security and server logs (IP address, timestamp, request path) To keep the Site available, detect abuse and prevent fraud Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f))

We do not collect wallet addresses, private keys, exchange passwords, identity documents or any special-category data. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not sell personal data to anyone.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files stored in your browser. We use them in three categories. Analytics and marketing cookies are switched off until you explicitly allow them — if you do nothing, only strictly necessary cookies are used.

Category Purpose Examples Set before consent?
Strictly necessary Keep the Site secure and remember your cookie choice cs_cookie_consent, security challenge cookies Yes (required)
Analytics Count visits and see which pages help readers Aggregate, IP-truncated analytics No — opt-in only
Marketing / affiliate Attribute outbound clicks to exchange partners Referral click ID, partner cookies No — opt-in only

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time by clicking “Cookie settings” in the footer of any page, or by clearing the cs_cookie_consent entry in your browser’s local storage. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it and does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before you withdrew.

5. Affiliate and referral tracking

The Site is funded by affiliate links. When you click a “Visit offer”, “Claim bonus” or comparison button, you are sent to the exchange through a redirect on our domain (for example /go/binance). That redirect records only the exchange ID and a random click identifier — never your name, email or any wallet data. The exchange partner may then set its own cookie so it can recognise the referral. Those partner cookies are controlled by the exchange, not by us, and are covered by their privacy policy.

6. Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We share it only with the service providers needed to operate the Site, under contract and only for the purposes above:

  • Hosting and CDN provider — serves the Site and protects it from attacks (processes IP addresses).
  • Analytics provider — only if you opt in to analytics cookies.
  • Affiliate networks and exchange partners — only the click ID needed to attribute a referral.
  • Email provider — if you subscribe to our newsletter, to deliver it.
  • Professional advisers or authorities — where we are legally required to disclose.

7. International data transfers

The Site is hosted in the United States. If you are in the EU/EEA, this means your data may be transferred outside the EEA. Where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards under Chapter V GDPR, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and, where relevant, the supplier’s adequacy certification. You can ask us for details of the safeguards in place by contacting the address in section 14.

8. How long we keep your data

Data Retention period
Cookie consent choice (stored in your browser) Until you clear it or withdraw consent
Referral click records 12 months, then deleted or anonymised
Contact form messages 24 months, then deleted
Newsletter subscription Until you unsubscribe, then removed from the active list
Security / server logs Up to 90 days

9. Your rights under the GDPR

If you are in the EU/EEA (or the UK), you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erase data (“right to be forgotten”) where we no longer need it.
  • Restrict or object to processing, including objection to processing based on legitimate interest.
  • Data portability — receive the data you gave us in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting past lawful processing.
  • Not be subject to solely automated decisions that produce legal effects (we do not carry out any).

10. How to exercise your rights

Email [email protected] with the subject “Data request”. We will respond within one month, as required by Art. 12 GDPR. We may ask you to verify your identity before we act, to protect your data from unauthorised access. Exercising your rights is free of charge.

11. Children

The Site is aimed at adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with data, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Complaints

If you believe we have handled your data unlawfully, you can lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority in your EU/EEA country of residence, place of work or where the alleged infringement took place. We would appreciate the chance to resolve the issue first — please contact us at the address in section 14.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or the law. The “Last updated” date at the top always shows the current version, and material changes will be highlighted on this page.

14. Contact us

For general editorial questions (not data requests), use the same address and we will route it to the right person.

How this page was verified

  • Fees re-measured on live accounts, not copied from a marketing page.
  • Rankings are never sold; placement does not move a score.
  • Corrections are dated and logged in public.

Frequently asked questions

Short, dated answers. Every figure links back to the review it came from.

Where does the fee data come from?

The published maker/taker schedule on the platform plus a $1,000 market order we place ourselves to measure realised spread. Where the two disagree we publish both.

How do you measure liquidity depth?

Order-book depth within 1% of mid price on BTC, ETH and one mid-cap pair, sampled three times a day over a week.

What disqualifies a platform?

Unresolved withdrawal blocks, undisclosed custody of client assets, or refusal to publish a fee schedule. A disqualified platform is removed from the ranking rather than scored low.
